Salary is Better Than Donations....Dr Akash Bhardwaj

Dr Akash Bhardwaj, 40 a man whose life goal is to help those who are challenged! He is the founder of Khaas and has won many prestigious awards namely the Dr Abdul Kalam Peace Award and the UN Rex Karma Veer Chakra many , Hdfc Hero's award + 20 and he covered by 100+ Digital & electronic Media platform

 My vision is to make India the first country in the world with the most number of disabled people working in the tourism and travel industry……….Akash Bhardwaj”  

 It all started after an incident triggered by an acid attack survivor, Akash Bhardwaj founded Khaas, a travel agency run by visually impaired and acid attack survivors. “We want to bridge the gap between normalcy and abnormalcy,” shares Bhardwaj. The agency was started in 2017. Apart from the parental consent being a glitch, a lot of people including state ministers rejected his business proposal. This led him to sell off his properties and wife’s jewellry to start off. “As the differently-abled lacks confidence, they are apprehensive of their safety,” exclaims Bhardwaj. Hence, he reduced the working hours from nine hours to four hours. “Transportation is a big glitch because they take time to reach office and should also be home by dusk. For this, we started the work from home facility,” shares Bhardwaj. Though their productive time is less, their dedication and willingness to learn is commendable, making them a perfect fit for Khaas.  

The motive behind the establishment of KHAAS is to uplift and provide confidence to a deprived community. The ideology is to provide livelihood rather than donations and help the community to find a permanent solution. Many rehabilitation support initiatives by NGO’s focus on social and psychological rehabilitation of the victims. There are very few who provide them opportunities to earn a dignified livelihood, every day an idea of establishing an NGO is born and perhaps every week an NGO starts their noble work; but our focus should not be to provide them help in the form of donations. We need to fuel them with real life opportunities and entrust them with our confidence. KHAAS believes in this ideology of training their employees to stand up for themselves and build a living for themselves on their own.

KHAAS means special in Hindi and that sums up what this travel company is about. For one, it is managed completely by Specially abled.  It is not just the blind people who are benefitting through KHAAS. Monthly training modules  organized by KHAAS offer skill training to people with various disabilities and this totally free of cost 
Team has been trained to be independent in every way - mentally and economically. Enabling them the hope, will also change attitudes towards disability. To show the world that given opportunity, support and recognition, people with disabilities can do well.
Around 20-25 disabled people take part in these 10 to 15 -day sessions where they are taught about the basics of tourism and travel. This has helped many of them to get employed and even open their own ventures ( Training Program Name “ Employer or Employee”
